The City Government of Davao, through the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), inaugurated the newly-enhanced Toril Park on Agton Street in Toril, Davao City on Monday.

Covering 1.02 hectares, the park offers a children’s playground, outdoor exercise equipment, and modern comfort rooms. Toril Park is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

CENRO head Engr. Marivic Reyes told Edge Davao that the public is reminded to always follow the policy inside the park, which are stipulated in the City Ordinance No. 0682-19, otherwise known as the Davao City Parks System Management Ordinance.

Reyes said prohibited inside the park include smoking, carrying alcoholic drinks, carrying sharp objects and glass containers, vandalism, gambling, immoral acts, urinating in public, and improper waste disposal.

With the opening of Toril Park, Davao City now has 26 public parks.

The city also is slated to open Roxas Greenway Park later this year.

Last year, the city government of Davao opened to the public the Los Amigos Park and the Doña Vicenta Park.

It also opened two parks along the Davao City Coastal Road, the Bago Esplanade and the Gulf View Esplanade.

The city also opened several pocket parks in the city and these include the Candelaria Park in Quimpo Boulevard, the Matina Linear Park along the McArthur Highway, and the Communal Pocket Park in Mutual Homes, Barangay Communal.

Establishing public parks is part of the city’s program of creating green spaces in the city’s densely populated areas aiming to provide the public with the space to decompress from the day-to-day pressures of urban life.

The city government of Davao considered public parks and green spaces as means to promote the physical and mental well-being of Dabawenyos.
