In Laak, ComVal It’s uncle vs nephew for mayor

The mayoral race Laak, Compostela Valley Province is seen as the most hotly-contested in the province’s 11 municipalities so far.
It is a face-off between Mayor Reynaldo “Rey” Navarro and his own nephew, Vice Mayor Christopher “Boyet” Jovita.
Jovita’s mother is a first cousin of Navarro. Both are yet to complete their second terms.
Navarro chose Carlito Pacatang as his running mate. Pacatang lost to Jovita in the May 2010 elections. Jovita picked Rogelio Arambala, the three-term former mayor who almost made it to the provincial board last elections where Moran Takasan won for the last seat by a margin of 1,740.  The Pacatang-Arambala duel is expected to be a toss-up.
Navarro was unopposed in the 2010 elections.
This time around, Navarro and Jovita are going one-on-one with Navarro’s municipal council bets mostly incumbents, except for one who is in Jovita’s slate.
But the inclusion in Jovita’s slate of his half-sister, businesswoman Luchaylua Limlao, is seen as a big boost to his chances against Navarro.
Limlao transferred her voter’s registration in Laak where she was born from Bankerohan, Barangay 5-A, Davao City.
Navarro has questioned Limlao’s candidacy but the Commission on Elections ruled in her favor.
Laak is a first-class municipality with banana, rubber and palm oil as its major crops. Farming, inland fishery and livestock raising are the main sources of income of its residents. [ASA]
