Compostela Valley gears up for Bulawan Festival

COMPOSTELA VALLEY—Various activities are in line for the 10th Bulawan Festival and 19th founding anniversary that will be celebrated by the province on March 4 to 8, 2018.

SP member Hon. Joanna Aileen Gentugaya who is also the committee chair on tourism said this year’s celebration will be “bigger” with the First Governor’s Shootfest as one of the highlights of the festival.

“We expect the presence of PNP Chief General “Bato” Dela Rosa on the shootfest but we also expect him to come to the opening ceremony,” said Gentugaya.

The festival will also feature the search for the first Bulawan Festival Queen, which is separated from the usual Bulawanong Pasundayag where each municipality picks their own Bulawan Queen.

ComValenyos could also expect artists to come to the province such as Richard Poon, Billy Crawford, and Andrew E.

Gentugaya said they are expecting around 7000 tourists especially on the nightly events, specifically coming from the province and its neighboring areas such as Davao del Norte and Davao Oriental.

On March 8, Com Val government top officials will sponsor “Bulawanong Paghiusa”, a unity night concert which will also serve as an appreciation event for the stakeholders of the provincial government.

Com Val Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy assured that security measures will be strictly observed during the festival.

“We advise the public not to bring backpack to the capitol grounds,” stressed Uy.

Meanwhile, with the recent pronouncement of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Gina Lopez on the cancellation of MPSA of 75 mining companies across the country, the provincial leader said St. Augustine Gold and Copper Ltd. which operates King-king Copper-Gold Project, Uy said the company told him that they are complying the requirements and has signalled an assurance that there is no protected watershed around their area.

According the governor, mining serves as the second largest economy drivers in the province next to agriculture.

‘Bulawan’ is a Cebuano term for gold, one of the main mineral products of the province.
