The budget for the second rehabilitation of Agdao Public Market is still not available.
According to Councilor Edgar P. Ibuyan Jr. chairman for the games and amusements and government enterprise and privatization, the project was supposed to commence last year but the initial budget of P200Million was deemed not enough both by the Department of Agriculture and the City Planning Office.
The DA and CPO agreed to an amount of P740 million for the entire renovation of the Agdao Public Market which will be done on a three phase construction. There is no specific date but Ibuyan said the construction will be this year.
“The P200 million was supposedly turned over last year with Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio saying it was okay to have a memorandum of agreement. The mayor wanted that since the budget comes from the DA, it should be the DPWH that should implement it,” Ibuyan told the Pulong Pulong ni Pulong on Tuesday at the Councilor’s Lounge.
He said that the budget is from the DA and as per suggestion of Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio the national agency that will implement this project is Department of Public Works and Highways. He said that the lady mayor want’s the budget to be ready before proceeding to the construction.
He said that they are considering the vendors’ concerns such as displacement during the construction. It was agreed upon that the construction will be done by phase in order to cater the vendor’s concerns.
Some parts of the proposed three story building will be airconditioned like the offices of the City Community Environment and Natural Resources Office and City Economic Enterprise within the building.
“The main purpose of the rehabilitation is purely for the public market but considering the usage of the building since it is big then might as well use the other areas of the proposed new Agdao Public Market building,” Ibuyan Jr said.
In Davao City there are 13 public markets namely Agdao public market , Bunawan public market, Paquibato public market, Bangkerohan public market, Toril public market, Matina public market,Tibungco public market, Mintal public market, Calinan public market, Bagiuo public market, Marilog public market, Bunawan public market, Panacan public market, Sasa Km 11 public market. He said that other developments will be done to these public markets after the rehabilitation of Agdao Public Market.
He said that the prior commitment by the DA to give P50 million budget to the other public areas were transferred to the Agdao public market because other public markets has issues that needs to be settled before going into the renovation such as land ownerships and other land .
