Around 20,000 under-privileged families throughout the country received beef supplies on Sept. 2 as two Filipino-Turkish non-government organizations (NGOs) mark the celebration of one of Islam’s most sacred feast days.
On Eidul-Adha, or the “Festival of Sacrifice,” millions of Muslims around the world including the Philippines commemorate Abraham’s readiness to sacrifice his son to God who, moved by his devotion, provides a ram to Abraham to be sacrificed instead. The account of Abraham’s devotion can be found in both the Holy Quran in the Muslim faith, and in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible in the Christian faith.
Devout Muslims mark Eidul-Adha by performing acts of charity and kindness for those in need and the less privileged.
In the Philippines, the Integrated Center for Alternative Development (ICAD) and the Pacific Dialogue Foundation (PDF), Filipino-Turkish NGOs, since 1997 have marked the feast day by providing food and other essentials to indigent families. Socio-civic groups and government agencies participate for a more successful activity and a wider reach to more beneficiary families.
Both ICAD and PDF are non-stock and non-profit foundations organized by Filipinos and Turkish nationals with the objective of closer ties between the Philippines and Turkey and the fostering of religious tolerance and multi-cultural exchange. The ICAD runs secular schools in Metro Manila and Zamboanga City that follow Cambridge Diploma program. They also participate in socio-civic projects and encourage inter-faith and multi-cultural dialogue to foster understanding and peace.
