A new eye center complete with state-of-the art diagnostic equipment has opened its doors to the public. Called The Davao EyeMDs Laser and Surgery Center, the facility is envisioned to provide the people of the Davao Region and the rest of Mindanao with modern, high quality eye care services. The realization of a long-time dream of its initiators, all practicing local ophthalmologists, Davao Eye MDs Laser and Surgery Center makes available locally the best equipment for use by ophthalmologists practicing in the field of comprehensive ophthalmology: retina, glaucoma, pediatric ophthalmology, neuro ophthalmology, orbit, cornea and refractive surgery. Dr. Josephine I. Cadayona, president of the newly-formed corporation that runs the Center, informed that Davao EyeMDs is composed totally of practicing ophthalmologists (twenty-nine in all), mostly from Davao City. Others are based in Tagum City, Mati City, Digos City and Maramag, Bukidnon.
Davao EyeMDs Laser and Surgery Center held its inauguration and blessing on March 30, 2019 with the Honorable Vice Mayor, Bernard Al-ag, representing Mayor Sara Duterte, heading the guest list which included medical practitioners, friends and supporters, as well as representatives of reputable ophthalmic equipment manufacturers from Germany, Singapore and Manila. The Vice Mayor led the cutting of the ribbon, assisted by Dr. Andrew Selga, former Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology, Southern Philippines Medical Center and Dr. Cadayona. Dr. Anabelle P. Yumang, Regional Director of the Department of Health XI, later joined in the reception at the same venue.
