EDITORIAL: A loud message

Although the results of Monday’s elections are yet to be official, it is clear at this point what the message is of majority of the Filipino people.

With nine out of the 12 Senatorial slots poised to be occupied by the administration candidates, this resounding victory affirms the people’s support to the current administration of President Rodrigo Duterte. The bottomline is ensuring that those people who will be thrust into the responsibility of crafting laws are able to work harmoniously with the President. This, despite the time-honored principle of separation of powers.

The message is simple. Like seeking for people to work in an organization, the employers are in the market for those who are able to work for and with management. A healthy, harmonious work environment is a productive environment. That said, the people have spoken for their choices and they opted for the 12 who they believe fit the qualities as advertised on the virtual job market.

Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo couldn;t have describe dit rather aptly when he said on Tuesday: “Undoubtedly, the Duterte magic spelled the difference. The overwhelming majority of the electorate have responded to the call of the President to support those whom he said would help pass laws supportive of his goal to uplift the masses of our people and give them comfortable lives they richly deserve. The voters rejected the negative propaganda unleashed by the opposition against PRRD and his Administration, e.g. issues of extra-judicial killings, drug war, South China Sea, among others. The victory of the Administration’s candidates and the shut out of the Otso Diretso candidates send a strong message that our people yearn for stability and continuity of the genuine reforms that the Administration started. They yearn for a constructive – not obstructionist – Senate which will help in crafting the President’s legislative agenda.”

If there is something to learn from the results of this elections, it’s how the polls reflected a nation’s hunger for people who work, not just talk, oppose and argue.

For once, let us have people who agree as one mind and heart for this country.
