In the middle of merrymaking, revellers will tend to enjoy to
the hilt, forget themselves and throw all cautions to the wind. And then an
untoward incident happens.
It is therefore wise for the City Government of Davao, using its City
Information Office (CIO), to issue an advisory to the public to keep a
hassle-free and safe celebration of the month-long 34th Kadayawan Festival
A number of activities, which began last August 2, are in store for the annual
festivities showcasing the culture, heritage and diversity of the indigenous
tribes of Davao City.
This year’s celebration is expected to be bolder and more exciting as it
finally adopts a modernized genre in fusion with culture and tradition.
With a bigger celebration also comes an expected increase in crowds witnessing
the different events.
In its advisory, the city government reminds everyone to use hat, fan and
umbrellas, and to find shady spots when watching activities under the sun. It
is also helpful to bring an extra shirt, candies, crackers and water at all
times. The city also asks people to use pedestrian crossing lanes and never to
use any types drones without security clearance.
Warnings were also issued on the strong implementation of policies that include
prohibitions on smoking, carrying of backpacks/big bags, liquor, making bomb
jokes, littering, and sporting firearms, sharp objects.
The use of laser lights is a no-no as well as bringing infants and small
children in congested areas.
The authorities also advised merrymakers to remove jacket and sunglasses
upon entering inspection areas to easily distinguish suicide bombers and wanted
persons as Davao City’s obvious priority is the safety and security of its
people.
The Crime Index 2019 Mid-Year of Numbeo, an online database that provides
information about the living conditions in countries around the world,
recognizes Davao City as the second safest country in Southeast Asia (SEA).
In sum, let’s remember that it is best to be safe than sorry.
This year’s safest city of SEA is Chiang Mai, Thailand with a Safety Index of
77.88, and a Crime Index of 22.12.
