Tower of peace

What former Davao City police chief Colonel Alexander Tagum built, his successor Colonel Kirby John Kraft needs to build on.

Yes, Davao City has a “Tower of Peace” and it has nothing to do with the video game South Park which has one. In fact, this Tower of Peace is not even a concrete structure one can touch and see. It’s intangible and yet significant. It’s even institutional.

That imaginary tower was the first marching order Mayor Inday Sara Duterte gave to the newly-installed Davao City Chief of Police for him to “work hard” in maintaining the city’s peace and order or improve it to the next level. With her message to Kraft during the turnover of command, Mayor Sara was very clear on her instructions to Kraft–build from the Tower of Peace that Tagum built. This tower already has a first floor, and Kraftcan work on adding the next floor.

Simply put, Mayor Sara wants Kraft to improve on the work started by Tagum and to make it better for the people of Davao to enjoy.
To achieve this, Mayor Sara emphasized on two values Kraft need to have–dedication and integrity. Tagum leaves a legacy of a city police office that’s known as the best City Police Office in the country. Tagum will assume the post as chief assistant of the acting PNP chief–a post he deserved owing to his works in Davao City.

On the part of Kraft, the chance to head the DCPO is a window of opportunity every police officer in this country wishing to get kicked upstairs is dreaming.  The DCPO has seen some of the best city directors rise up in the ranks with the likes of retired PNP chief and now Senator of the land Gen. Ronald dela Rosa.

It’s a dream assignment if only for one who is committed to make a lasting imprint in his professional career as a chief law enforcer.
