EDITORIAL: All in

What started with a confusion is now heading towards a harmonious imposition of uniform border control for the entire Davao Region.

The brainchild of Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to partially restrict the borders of the region as efforts to prevent the spread of the potentially deadly coronavirus gained the support of local government units across the region and the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management Of Emerging Infectious Diseases – Regional Task Force Against Covid-19 (RIATF – RTF) 11.

For the city of Davao, the partial border restriction will start on 12:01 a.m. of May 14, 2021. This means travellers from other regions will be told to turn around unless they fall upon the exemptions. With Executive Order (EO) No. 29 Series of 2021 signed by Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio and released on Saturday, the imposition of controlled border passage is now in place.
It is not an easy decision to arrive at considering the many factors that will be affected by the measure. However, at the end of the day, it is the people’s health and security that is the primary consideration. Albeit not 100 percent restricted, the supply chain of business will be affected. It is a necessary sacrifice to make.

The bigger picture is that the region goes through this speed bumps together. One unified step at a time.
