Indeed, competency has no barriers. Not even disability.
Four on-the-job trainees (OJTs) with Down Syndrome succeeded in proving that they have what it takes to compete in the corporate word.
Anflo Management and Investment Corporation (ANFLOCOR) and the Don Antonio O. Floirendo Foundation (AOFF), in partnership with the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines, Inc. (DSAPI) – Davao Chapter and TADECO Livelihood and Training Center (TLTC), culminated the Work Exposure for People with Down Syndrome program through an intimate and very special gathering at the 5th floor of the Damosa Topaz Tower Lounge.
The OJTs, namely, Barbie Grace Hong, Cresten Costan, Michael Redoloza and Alvin Redulosa, were given citation, for the fruitful six months that they had spent with the company.
Present during the ceremony last January 14 were the supervising officers and colleagues of the trainees, whom they had worked with and have helped them strive amidst the conditions they have.
Lanie Vergara of the DSAPI – Davao Chapter, thanked everyone at ANFLOCOR for allowing the trainees experience how it is to work in a corporate environment.
“It’s been a dream of DSAPI Davao, that persons with down syndrome will be given work related opportunities and be treated with equality in their community,” Vergara expressed during her speech.
She said that since the organization’s inception in 1997, it is only last year that DSAPI partnered with other establishments.
Russell U. Barrizo, programs director of AOFF, shared that giving community exposures like this is very close to the foundation.
“AOF is an active supporter, and we are thankful that the feedbacks were positive,” Barrizo said.
The project proved as a stepping stone towards making a stand against ignorance and waste of human potential.
