The City Council is cutting down on its use of paper during its regular sessions, according to third district Councilor Bernard Al-ag.
He said this is in preparation for next year when the council will no longer be using paper for its regular session.
In their place, each of the 26-member City Council will be provided a lap top to be able to browse through attachments.
“Every session we’re using about 50 kilos of paper and every year we are using 8000 kilos of paper,”he said.
Al-ag said the City council has already purchased laptops for all the members of the council and will soon be made available to the city legislators.
But first, they will have to undergo a training on November 29 to be conducted by the City Archive office in familiarizing themselves with the new system .
“Laptops will be used exclusively in all agendas, session and of course in all our attachments. As you can see every session our folder is full of attachments,” said Al-ag
Al-ag added that 80% is attachment papers but this will be made available in a digital form that can be accessed by the city councilors,” he said.
“This is a good move of the City council for the next year because we are also going into this kind of program to all other departments,” said Al-ag
Al-ag said the shift towards paperless offices will be supported by a city ordinance.
