Davao City-based organic agriculture practitioners and advocates pressed for more organic agriculture zones (OA) where products are certified under the Participatory Guarantee System.
As part of the month-long Organic agriculture month celebration, the organic agriculture advocates also echoed their call on Dabawenyos to have access to organic products.
“We want every Dabawenyo to have access to genuine organic food certified by the Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) Davao,” said Nena Morales, chair of the Davao-based PGS committee.
“We can have that if we can encourage more farmers to go organic and provide enabling policies such as declaration of OA zones for them to sustain their organic practices,”she said.
The association the PGS logo ascertains the products sold by the seller are certified organic by a peer network of organic farmers.
The Association of Davao Organic Advocates said the PGS branding is part of the implementation of the city’s organic agriculture ordinance and will have long-term benefits for the Dabawenyos and the environment.
In relation of Organic month celebration, the Association of Davao Organic Advocates launched their organic food festival with the theme of: “Pagsisiguro na organiko ang konsumo ng bawatDabawenyo tungo sa tunay na pagbabago.”
The theme focuses on ensuring organic foods and products as the primary food for all Dabawenyos.
Organic food festival is led by Organic Agriculture Advocated together with environmental groups and green restaurants, food processors and caterers and formed jointly by the Department of Trade and Industry
The production and consumption of organically grown agricultural products in an organic food festival to held on November 27-29, 2017 at the NCCC Kadayawan Hall.
Free taste of different cuisine using organic foods and a cooking demonstration with a mainstream dishes like humba, lechon, siomai, burger and sisig. Green business that promote safe and healthy food such as Balay Verde, Health Chioce, Maxey’s farm, Kenaniah’s farm and Wynward Garden & Bistro will be presented during the festival.
Organic Agriculture Advocates also encourage to visit the organic market located at Rizal Park every Thursday and Friday along with the photo exhibit at the SP lobby on November 20-24 to get to know who are the PGS-certified farms and suppliers in Davao City.
Environmental groups will conduct organic agriculture orientations corresponding laws in an effort to promote the full integration of organic agricultures in agricultural schools all over Davao City.
