The influx of passengers crowding the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT) has not decreased as thousands of people started to come back to Davao City after spending the holidays in their respective provinces.
Aisa Yusop, DCOTT general manager, said that passengers in droves began going home sometime on Sunday, December 24, in order to spend the Christmas season in their home cities, towns and provinces.
Yusop said homeward-bound people will again converge in the bus terminal for the New Year’s celebration on December 31 and be back to work about January 2nd.
She said that because of the mass movement of passengers, the terminal becomes a beehive starting as early as 5 a.m.
According to the data obtained from DCOTT almost reached 30,000- 50,000 passengers depart and arrived started Friday, December 22.
“A big number of people working and studying in the city tend to go back to their provincial homes to bond with their families during the Yuletide season,” she said.
Yusop however said that there are no reported untoward incidents during the Christmas season in the 5-decade old terminal as they have the support of the security personnel and the police assisted by Task Force Davao.
She said that the Davao Terminal added more security cameras, x-ray scanner and cctv cameras inside the bus to secure the trips and to monitor the passengers while traveling.
According to Yusop, the arrivals and departures of buses are fast for all destinations except for North Bound due to many road repairs in those areas.
“The transport office expects the huge passenger influx to continue until January 2, 2018,” Yusop said.
She said based from her assessment, there were more passengers this year compared to last year.
