The identities of the 14 alleged members of New People’s Army terrorist who managed to escape the police authorities is still being determined.
“We are still conducting intelligence gathering and we are still establishing the names and identities of those 14,” Chief Supt. Marcelo Morales, regional director of Police Regional Office (PRO) 11, said in a press conference on Thursday at Davao City Police Office (DCPO).
Morales said it is challenging for them to identify the NPA because they are using different aliases.
“We cannot say that they are new here in the city or not but what we can say is they came here and they are planning to conduct atrocities against government security forces and extortion to the business men and conduct sparrow operations to our government personnel,” he said.
The regional director instructed the chief of policein the city to intensify the security measures in Davao City to prevent untoward incidents here.
“I gave them detailed discussion on how to enhance our security measures here in the city,” he said.
Despite the threat posed by NPA, Morales assures the public that the PRO11 is ready to defend the region.
“We are ready to defend the region and we have a good relationship and coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other law enforcement agencies. We can protect the region from their bad plans,” he said.
Last September 21, 2018, in the arrest of Jimmy Duran Lucob, 26, single, construction worker, and Raquelyn Moda, 19, native of Caburan, Davao Occidental both residing at Purok 3, Barangay Langub, Davao City, 14 alleged members NPA terrorist hiding in their residence escaped, running towards the forested area heading Matina Pangi direction.
On a previous interview, chief Inspector Milgrace Driz, spokesperson of PRO 11, revealed that based on the record of police authorities the family of the suspects has been supportive to the NPA terrorist.
During the arrest, recovered from the possession and control of the suspects during the arrest were live fragmentation grenade and assorted subversive documents, one unit homemade caliber 3516 revolver and drawn maps of their targets.
