20 hurt as truck veers off road

A total of 60 students on board a forward truck suffered shock, trauma and injuries when the truck they were riding fell off the road after it lost its brakes in Talaingod, Davao del Norte on Friday.

Sketchy reports showed that the Isuzu Forward truck with plate number LEH 480, driven by certain Carmelo Nunez, registered under the name of Tagum Agricultural Development Corporation, Inc (TADECO), was travelling from Purok Salaran, Sitio Milyong, Talaingod, Davao, del Norte towards Poblacion Talaingod when the accident happened.

Investigation revealed that when truck reached the downhill portion of Lower Misulong, Brgy Santo Nino, the driver discovered that  the brake was not functioning, forcing him to lose control of truck which veered off the road and fell to one side.

The incident caused injuries to Desiree Alada, Nelsie O Rin, Shyrel Me Suitado, Galleto Roman and 16 others  who were brought to Kapalong Distict Hospital and Davao Regional Hospital for treatment.

It was not known how many of those injured are in serious condition.

The rest suffered from shock and trauma. None was killed.

The students, accompanied by their principal and teachers conducted an outreach program through feeding, distribution of used clothes and slippers of the pupils of Central Baugan Primary School prior to the incident.

There is no casualty in the untoward incident.
