375 housing units for former rebels readied

National Housing Authority general manager, Marcelino P. Escalada Jr., unveiled a total of 375 housing units to be given to the rebel surrenderers under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) of the Department of Interior and Local Government.

The subdivision is the first Freedom Residences (FR) under the NHA in the country. It is located at Barangay Cuambogan, Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

Escalada said that the project will be completed on the early 2019 but there will be an initial turn-over to 50 surrenderers this last week of October. He already requested the President to grace the turn over and they are waiting for his date of availability.

He said that each house and lot package to given free costs P450,000.

“We will put them in one subdivision to secure them. It is easier to secure our FR or surrenderers because President Rodrigo Duterte is committed to secure them,” Escalada said during the subdivision tour on Friday.

He said that this subdivision will host the surrenders from Mati, Davao Oriental; Agusan del sur and del Norte; Surigao del Sur and del Norte; and some parts of Compostela Valley and Davao del Norte.

They are also planning to put up one in Bukidnon and Cagayan de Oro.

The house has a total land area of 40 square meter and a floor area of 22 square meter for the ground floor and 11 square meters for the loft.

The house floor is tiled and has a proper comfort room, lavatory area, electricity and water connection.

“As soon as they come over, they will need to personally apply for the individual connection for water and power,” he said.

He said that the houses can withstand a 7.5 magnitude earthquake and 275 kilometer per hour wind.

Inside the subdivision there is a covered court and a market for dry and wet products.

“The sari-sari store will be prohibited in their front yard but instead they can form an association and sell in the market,” he said.

He said that the NHA will provide for the house, Department of Trade and Industry will come to match the residents for potential employers and other agencies as well who are part of the E-CLIP program.

“All other member agencies of the E-CLIP program will provide now of the necessary livelihood, employment and income generating activities,” he said.

He revealed that this project started three years ago but since these housing units were not utilize and now there is a need for FR housing, he decided to put some improvements in the houses and give it to the FRs.
