Filing of COCs deemed peaceful

The filing of Certificate of Candidacies in Davao City has been generally peaceful.

In the weekly AFP-PNP Press Corps Southern Mindanao press conference at The Royal Mandaya Hotel on Wednesday, S/Inspector Maria Teresita Gaspan told the media that the filing of COCs in the city was peaceful.

Gaspan said that Davao City Police (DCPO) provided security coverage in the area of Commission on Elections located in Ramon Magsaysay Avenue in this city.

She said that DCPO allotted one team of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team and a team of police officers were provided by the Sta. Ana Police Station because it is under the area of their jurisdiction.

“There were no untoward incidents reported in relation to the filing of COC,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Election Watch list Areas (EWAS) in the city are still under verification whether the areas that were included in list during previous barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) election will still be included in the midterm election EWAS.

“(We are still verifying) because the previous barangay and SK election there was one area listed category one, which is Barangay 23 but for now I think it will not be included,” she said.

She added that areas under category two, which has presence of lawless groups, might be included for the midterm election watch list.

She said that based on the previous barangay and SK elections, there were 30 Barangays listed in the under category two these are from Buhangin, Toril, Paquibato, Marilog, Calinan and Tugbok.

“We still have to validate this; we are still waiting for the submissions of station commanders whether these barangay will be included or not. We also need to confer this with the Armed Forces of the Philippines in order to confirm if there are barangay in the list which was recently cleared from insurgencies,” she said.

Aside from validating they are also consolidating the data whether there are new areas to be included in the list.

She added that the coordinating meeting with Commission on Election will determine the EWAS for the up-coming election.
