More festivities likely during Ironman  70.3

DABAWENYOS  can expect a more festive and more fun Ironman 70.3 which will be held on March 24, 2019.

“They will expect a very amazing hosting of Davao City, I can promise you that. It will be a safe, fun and will be a personal best race,” Princess Galura, general manager of Sunrise events, said during the registration at Seda Abreeza Hotel along J.P. Laurel Ave, Poblacion District, Davao City, on Monday.

She explained that the personal best time will be recorded here in Davao, because of the flat terrain and calm water and the participant’s only challenge will be the heat in the run.

“We want to make it more festive, more Dabawenyo and more Mindanaoan” Michael Aportadera, office-in-charge of Sports Development Division-City Mayor’s Office, said.

She also revealed that the Mindanao-based artist, Kubali Millan will again create the medals for the triathletes.

“Kublai again, another icon from Mindanao, is so excited (for the event), he already has a design for the medals,” she said.

“They can really expect a really good race, a very good medal and a very good experience,” she added.

As for the security of the event, Galura said that ‘of all the races we have hosted, the safety and security here, if there is a 500 percent that’s it but if it can still be increased then that will be beyond amazing.’

“Davao City is known for their safety and security and we really feel that as an organizer and we also feel the trust of the triathletes because they told me that there is a lot of security ensuring their safety,” she said.

When asked about will there be more efforts in controlling the spectators when celebrities will participate in the race, Galura said that the runners like Matteo Guidicelli and Kim Chui might be chased by their fans but we will make sure to control the crowd.

Aportadera said that the City Government will be in-charge of the logistics of the event.

“We will make sure that everybody is well taken care of, secured and of course well fed and properly attended,” Aportadera said.

He added that they want to improve on how to deal with the heat in the run and focus more on the needs of the triathletes especially on medical, safety and food.

“We would also like to improve on how to accommodate twice the number of participants last year,” he added.

He said that the hosting the Ironman 70.3 help the city to be known as a destination.

Galura said that business will be booming in time of the Ironman 70.3 because a lot of hotels and restaurants will be full and it may also affect the traffic and it is okay because this only proves that the people participating in the event trusts Davao city.
