NHA eyes 23-ha. Lasang area for landless families

The National Housing Authority is now coordinating with the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board  for the latter to undertake the land development in the 23 hectare land in Lasang, Davao City for both informal and formal settlers.

“It will be a unique community,” said NHA general manager Marcelino P. Escalada Jr.,adding that he suggested the idea of developing the Lasang area to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte who readily agreed. The land is owned by the city government.

He said occupants of this project will come from both  informal settlers’ families and formal settler families.

“In fact she told me that it is better if the housing component will be handled by NHA and the land development will be handled HLURB,” Escalada said on a press conference held at Freedom Residences at Tagum City on Friday.

He said that Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is also conducting a land development in the area and made a cross drainage and there is also a small expansion on the open canal being constructed there in order to prevent flooding in the area.

Since HLURB is in-charge of the whole land development, there will be backfilling and also embankmentdone to elevate the land.

He said that they will still develop the area so they cannot determine how many units will be constructed in the area but he revealed that they will incorporate all designs available in NHA such as low rise building (LRB), row house, single detach, duplex, town house designs, community and commercial facilities.

He said occupants of this project will be those informal settlers’ families and formal settler families.

“It will be a unique community,” he said.
