The prices of commercial flowers in Davao City have increased, although those of candles remain the same as people scramble for these commodities during the ongoing observance of All Saints Day and All Souls Day.
Flower vendors along San Pedro street. in the vicinity of the Sangguniang Panglungsod building said that they have to raise prices of flowers as some of the flower planters increased their prices.
Rosemina Delfin, a vendor, told Edge Davao yesterday that the flowers whose prices have doubled from November 1 to 3 are roses, mumps, chrysanthemum and anthurium.
“If we will not increase the prices, we will easily run out of flowers to sell, “ she said.
From P150 for a stalk of mumps, it is now P200, while roses, anthurium and baby’s breath will now cost P80 to as high as P160 as opposed to only P40 per stalk before.
She said that the prices will still depend on the type and quality of the flowers.
“We double the prices per stem from regular present prices of P25, P40, P50, P60, and P120 depending on the variety and sizes,” said Delfin.
She said that the price of arranged flowers soared to P 50 to P200 from the usual P50-P150.
Flower vendors of Agdao and Bankerohan public markets said prices of their flowers such as sunflower are pegged at P200 per stalk, calla lily P100 per bundle, carnation (Bukidnon) P150 per bundle, Malaysian mumps P50 per bundle, baby’s breath P150 per bundle, roses P250 per dozen, anthurium P150 per dozen, and orchids P500 per dozen.
Candle vendors, on the other hand, said there will be no increase in the prices of their products, adding that even if they increase at all, it will only be a bit.
