The 18th Davao City Council approved on third and final reading on Tuesday an ordinance authorizing the City Mayor to sign a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the Philippine College of Technology (PCT) for the work immersion program of the senior high school students under its caregiving program with the Co Su Gian Home for the Aged and Child Minding Center.
Davao City Councilor Pilar Braga, chairperson of the committee on education, said that MOA is relative to affiliation of their caregiving SHS student through the WIP with centers supervised and managed by the said office such as the Co Su Gian Home for the Aged and the City Minding Center.
The MOA, aims to develop the skills and help the students to become globally competitive.
The work immersion program is one of the course requirements for graduation of a SHS student as mandated in the Republic Act No. 10533 otherwise known as “Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013”, said Braga.
“The SHS student has to undergo work immersion in a business organization, establishment, or in an institution according to their chosen track, strand and specialization within the Basic Education System,” she added.
According to Braga, the Co Su Gian Home for the Aged and Child Minding Center has been a long time partner of the PCT under Caregiving and Health Care Services course of TESDA with NC II.
“The SHS students are under a 2-year course, specializing in Caregiving Program and they are trained to take care of the elderly as well as the children during the exposure as part of their curriculum,” Braga explained.
