SoKor donates 14 patrol vehicles to Davao LGU

The Republic of Korea (South Korea) has donated a total of 14 mobile patrol vehicles to the City Government of Davao, as part of its official development assistance to the Philippines.

On Monday’s flag raising ceremony at the City Hall of Davao, 12 Elantra Patrol Cars and two Starex Patrol Vans were donation to the city government, in partnership of Hyundai Motor Company, the Korean National Police Agency and the Korean International Cooperative Agency.

Receiving the donated patrol cars are Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Sr. Supt. Alexander Tagum, Police Regional Office-11 (PRO-11) Police Chief Supt. Marcelo Morales, City Administrator Zuleika Lopez and City Council Chair for Peace and Order and Public Safety Mabel Sunga-Acosta.

The said turnover is part of the two countries’ joint project in modernizing the Philippine National Police (PNP) in its crime busting capabilities, which is on its sixth year.

Tagum said in his speech that the donated mobile vehicles will be beneficial for the DCPO to further enhance their police operations, as “cutting edge to fight all form of criminality and terrorism in the city.”

“These additional logistics resources will be of great asset in our conduct of enhanced police integrated patrol operations in our areas of responsibility to ensure our expeditions and delivery of service of protection to our people will be delivered in times of need,” Tagum said.

40 PNP personnel from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion Police in the region will be using the donated patrol vehicles, which will be deployed starting this week in all 12 police stations in the city.

Tagum also assured that it will be for official use only, and has instructed all station commanders to supervise its usage.

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Officer Edgar Ang said in an interview that a total 100 patrol cars had already been turned over to PNP this year.

Ang also said that 100 motorcycle vehicles will be allocated to the PNP, expecting to arrive at the first quarter of next year.

“I believe Davao City will also get 14 (motorcycle vehicles),” Ang said.
