Drug rehab course yields 700 finishers

The City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) of Davao City has partnered with different stakeholders and universities to help conduct the Community Based Rehabilitation and Aftercare Program (CBRAP), which resulted to more than 700 drug reformist finishers of the first phase as of July 2018.

On Saturday, the University of Immaculate Conception’s (UIC) Kaduyog Sagop Kinabuhi program had its culmination for the third batch finishers of the first phase of CBRAP.

Dr. Corazon Umblero, director of UIC Community Development Services, said that 72 drug reformists moved-up out of the 80 members who voluntarily enrolled in the program.

Umblero said that these graduates are from Baragay Colosas, Paquibato District in Davao City.

The moving-up activity was held in the UIC campus Davao City and was attended by the family members of the reformists, CADAC, Liga ng mga Barangay, PNP, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Department of the Interior and Local Government and the UIC community.

“Not all who enrolled in the program graduated because we have to be strict. Everything should be followed in our program so that the reformist can be qualified for the next phase,” Umblero said during the Connect: Science, Health and Wellness press conference on Friday at SM Lanang Premier.

She said all the components should be complied, if the reformist lacks one or two components, he or she will have to join the next batch.

She added that there were some of the 80 who enrolled late in the program because initially they were hesitant that the program will work for them but seeing the others who participated in the program they were encouraged to join.

“Once we start the program there is a need of continuity in the progress particularly in the clinical drugs screening because this is a health issue, it is part of our monitoring,” she said.

She said that the first batch of finishers were from Barangay 5-A, 6-A and 8-A with a total of 29 reformists who finished the intensive care last September 2017.

She said that after the completion of the first batch, UIC was invited by the Philippine National Police (PNP) assigned in Paquibato District to assist in implementing the CBRAP as a partner of the CADAC.

The university together with CADAC conducted sessions in seven barangays which had 50 participants in Malabog District in Davao City which had their culmination on September 2018.
