In celebration of the holiday season, regional director Alex C. Roldan of Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) 11, is reminding all local government units in the region who are intent on holding fireworks and pyrotechnic displays to secure permits from Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) or they will be administratively charged
“I just want to let the mayors know that we will hold them accountable whatever happens, if there are any accidents in the fire cracker zone of the area of their jurisdiction,” Roldan said on Thursday.
He said that LGUs who wanted
to have fireworks and pyrotechnic displays should have a permit from the BFP to
ensure that it went through an inspection on fire safety.
A permit from the PNP should also be secured for the approval of the fireworks
and pyrotechnic devices to be used in the display because there are guidelines
to be followed in the Executive Order 28.
Charges will depend on the severity of the accident.
Metro Manila still holds the spot of having a big number of victims involving fireworks during the Christmas and New Year celebration however in 2017, there is a decreasing trend on accidents involving fireworks in some provinces in the country.
He said that in Davao Oriental there are five municipalities that replicated the banning the use of firecrackers and pyrotechnics.
“The tradition of having firework display on these occasions is not really a tradition. We can celebrate the holiday season even without the fireworks,” Roldan said.
He reminded the merchants of fireworks and pyrotechnic devises not to pass through Davao City because of the total ban.
Items will be confiscated and the merchants will be charged in violating the local ordinance of Davao City.
