A total of 18,845 members of security forces, including auxiliary personnel, will be deployed during the holding of the Davao Region Athletic Association (DAVRAA) meet starting January 27, 2019.
Davao City Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) deputy head Angel Sumagaysay said on Thursday that the security personnel will begin to be deployed a week before the opening of DAVRAA, which will kick off at the University of the Philippines Mindanao (UP Min) Sports Complex in Mintal, Davao City.
He said that the city government as event host will install closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras within and outside the complex vicinity, to ensure the safety of everyone, including athletes, coaches, athletic officials and guests. “We can now mirror quarters wherein we could monitor in our PSSCC offices,” Sumagaysay said on Thursday during the iSpeak media forum at the City Hall of Davao.
He said that the security office has communicated with PLDT-Smart Communications to stabilize the internet connection in the area.
“We already communicated with PLDT-Smart about to the internet connection, since we would be needing it transmitting our CCTV footages direct to our office,” Sumagaysay said.
He also said that only drones authorized by PSSCC will be allowed to operate during the DAVRAA meet. Media or other organizations who seek to have aerials footages of the event will be provided the office.
“Even if their drone is registered in CAAP (Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines), we will confiscate it, because these are now being used by threat groups,” Sumagaysay said.
Department of EducationI (DepEd) 11 chief of the curriculum and learning management division Janette Veloso said that they had coordinated with various committees to ensure the safety and medical concerns for DAVRAA.
“DRRM (Disaster Risk Reduction and Management) is our primary concern,” Veloso said.
“All our officials are given instructions on what to relay to the coaches and
athletes, as to what to do when calamities or any untoward incidents will happen during DAVRAA,” she said.
