A total of 4,694 families, composed of 23,443 persons in some places in the Davao region were affected by the continuous rains causing floods and landslides since Friday due to the low-pressure area (LPA).
This was the report of the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) 11 as of 10:00 of January 12.
The report said that the affected people came from six municipalities in the provinces of Compostela Valley, Davao del Norte and Davao Oriental.
The Davao del Norte town is Asuncion but it has the biggest number of people affected — 4,450 families composed of 22,759 people who have already been evacuated to higher grounds.
At least five barangays of Asuncion particularly Sagayen, Doña Andrea, Canatan, Cabyawa and Sta. Filomina were flooded due to continuous rains.
Compostela Valley has 134 families, composed of 653 individuals, affected in the towns of Nabunturan, Laak, Monkayo and Compostela. Most of the people were evacuated to the nearest public schools and barangay gym, while some went to their relatives and neighbors in higher grounds.
Davao Oriental has 10 families of 40 individuals affected coming from the two barangays of Cateel who were evacuated to the nearest elementary school and resettlement site.
There are no casualty or injury reported due to the weather disturbance.
The report said all local disaster risk reduction and management councils are instructed to constantly monitor their areas of responsibility and pre-emptive evacuations.
As of this writing, the Cateel-Compostela road is not passable due to landslide in Barangay Ngan in the town of Compostela.
The Saug Dam in Asuncion and Aragon Dam have reached the alert level status while the rivers of Ngan in Compostela and Dacungbanua in Boston are in critical level.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 11 has a standby fund of P3 million for relief operations.
A total of 15, 208 food packs are available for the operation and repacking is still ongoing.
