A lady barangay
official from Magpet, North Cotabato, her husband and three others were
arrested for violating the election gun ban as they attempted to bring firearms
into Davao City yesterday, Tuesday morning.
Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director Sr. Supt. Alexander Tagum identified
the suspects as Analiza Arquillano, a barangay kagawad in Magpet, and husband George
Arquillano, who is a businessman.
Tagum said the driver Arnel Repollo and bodyguard Renier Pedroso as well Reynan
Lover Adame, the other passenger, in the vehicle, were also held by the
authorities for questioning.
Personnel of Task Force Davao and Calinan Police Station were conducting
checkpoint operations at the TF Davao Security Control Point at Barangay
Lacson, Calinan, Davao City when they flagged down the pick-up truck of the
suspects at around 10 a.m. of January 15.
“During the visual inspection of the vehicle, the firearms were
subsequently recovered from their possession and control,” he said.
Recovered were two hand grenades, a .45 caliber pistol with 73 live ammunition
and 5 magazines, a 9mm pistol with 64 live ammunitions and 2 magazines, and a
Caliber 30 M2 Carbine with 99 bullets along with five short magazines and a long
magazine.
He said the suspects will be charged for violation of the election gun ban implemented
by the Commission on Elections as well as violation of Republic Act 10591 for
illegally transporting hand grenades without authority.
