The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has recorded zero apprehension on the first two days of implementation of election gun ban in the city.
DCPO spokesperson Sr. Insp. Maria Teresita Gaspan said no one has been arrested in the checkpoints for bringing their firearms without a permit coming from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) since Sunday midnight.
“Maybe, the people are already well informed,” she said.
Gaspan said even cops and soldiers are required to get a special permit from Comelec since they are also not allowed to bring their guns if not on duty status or not wearing prescribed uniform
She said the zero violators of gun ban during the first two days could be also attributed to the existing Martial Law in Mindanao in which the permit to carry firearms outside residences (PTC-FOR) is still suspended.
Gaspan, however, said that the checkpoints are still intensified since the anti-criminality and anti-terror operations remain even if men in uniform like police officers and soldiers are under Comelec supervision.
She said all cops in checkpoints are observing the plain view doctrine but if there are prior information on some vehicle or person involve in crime they might invite dreiver and occupants to answer some questions.
Gaspan also appealed to the public to cooperate with the security officers since it is for the safety and security of the all the people in the city.
