Some areas in Davao Region were flooded on Saturday due to heavy rainfall caused by the tail end of the cold front.
Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) 11 Information Officer Leslie Francisco said flooding was reported in barangays of 1-A to 9-A in Tigatto and flood-prone Jade Valley due to the rise of the water level of Davao River.
Francisco said the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Center immediately implemented forced evacuation before the river could reach the code red level and pose severe danger to the community in these areas.
Aside from the flood, a minor landslide in Upper Kibalang in Marilog District was also reported causing an electric post to fall.
In Davao del Norte, Provincial Risk Reduction Management officer Glenda Delideli said four of their towns were flooded due to the overflowing Saug Dam in Asuncion and Nanaga River on Saturday afternoon.
Delideli said among the affected places were the low-lying areas of the towns of Asuncion, Kapalong, New Corella and Talaingod. She said the Saug Dam overflowed around 12 noon and followed Nanaga River about 1:00 p.m. of January 26.
As of this writing, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction teams are conducting pre-emptive evacuation of the residents affected by flood according to Delideli.
“We have on going documentation and monitoring, prepare food packs and rescue vehicle and water crafts,” she said.
In Compostela Valley, some roads of Monkayo and Laak towns were rendered impassable due to flood brought by the overflowing of nearby river.
A rescue operation of the affected families is currently conducted by the disaster team of the Philippine Army and Philippine National Police.
