Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio wants to decrease the number of school dropouts, and graduates that are currently unemployed.

This was one of the challenges she posed for herself and the local government units (LGUs) for 2019 and beyond during her first flagraising ceremony speech last Monday.

Sara is seeking for another term for city mayor in the May 2019 midterm elections. She is unopposed.

Duterte also said that she will continuously support the farmers, fisherfolks and people operating small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The mayor looked back to the success and hardships the city experienced during 2018, including the ongoing boom in city infrastructures and investments.

Duterte said that there were many road bridges, business establishments, school buildings, and residential projects that were inagurated throughout the city last year.

She thanked security personnel and city government employees for their dedication to their work.

Sara said that LGU officials and employees should raise the quality of life of the Dabawenyos, and not just work for compliance.

“Let us not wait for people to complain before we act.”

Duterte said that government workers must not only address the problems and complaints, but also know the problems even if the problems are not yet being felt by the Dabawenyos.

“That is why we must maximize the use of technology, to improve our systems and processes for program implementation, monitoring and evaluation,” she said.

“As we work on the projects and programs that lie ahead, I would like to ask everyone that we continue to deliver our services in the most efficient, prompt and responsive way possible,” Duterte said.
