The Commission of Election (COMELEC) said that the public can now check their names in their respective polling precincts as early as February.
COMELEC 11 spokesperson Krisna Samantha Caballero said that the final list of voters will also be posted in COMELEC’s official website.
“Voters can already verify their names in order to avoid difficulty of the last minute rush during Election Day,” Caballero said in a phone interview.
She said that voters having a hard time locating their precincts is the usual complaint that the COMELEC officers encounter during election day.
“Most complaints come from voters whose those names were delisted or transferred to other areas,” Caballero said.
“That is why they need to check their names as early as now, so that in case these would happen, we could still do something to address the problem,” she added.
As of October 2018, COMELEC recorded an estimated 3 million registered voters in the Davao region, composed of five provinces and six cities.
Davao City alone has a total of 948,360 registered voters.
For the other regions, the election spokesperson had to get the final list from the central office.
According to a COMELEC resolution, the election period will kick off on Sunday, January 13. The election gun ban will also take effective during that day.
Caballero said that the commission is closely coordinating with the difference security forces, such as the Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Task Force Davao (TF-Davao), and other government agencies, in ensuring the peace and order of the city during the election period.
