At least six terminals will be established in the city once the High Priority Bus System (HPBS) is fully implemented.

Assistant city administrator for admin lawyer Tristan Dwight Domingo told media that the city government of Davao will create six terminals. Of the six, there will be three major terminals and three depot terminals which will be smaller. The three major terminals will be established in the areas of Toril, Calinan, and Bunawan.

“The plan is also for these provincial buses nga didto na lang kutob. Karon man gud ang tanan provincial buses gasulod sa Davao City Overland Transport Terminal,” Domingo said.

The smaller terminals will be stationed inside the city in the areas of Buhangin, Bago and downtown area.  Domingo said these depot terminals will be temporary only.

“We have to understand how bus operations work. Pag peak hours tanan buses nato managan ug kung muhinay na kinahanglan mu-parking na tong uban. Kung maabtan sila sa Calinan didto sila sa Calinan, kung diri sila sa downtown, diri sila para in time sa peak hours na pud mudagan na pud sila,” he said.

The construction of the bus terminals is part of the P650-million social pension budget from the city government of Davao secured by City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

HPBS aims to improve the mass public transport and to address the worsening traffic congestion in the city. More than 7,000 jeepney drivers and operators will be affected once the operation of the modern bus system starts.

In a press release, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that the bus system is scheduled for implementation from 2020 to 2023, which aims to “provide an efficient and affordable mode of transport for Dabawenyos through the delivery of a modern HPBS.
