The provincial government of Davao de Oro is intensifying efforts against African Swine Fever (ASF) starting with the prohibition on the use of swill feeding and installation of foot and wheel bath for motorists and vehicles passing through its provincial boundaries.
“Since February nung nag-erupt ang ASF sa Davao Occidental, we are very vigilant together with our hog raisers here in Davao de Oro. Nag-meet kami on how to combat this virus and isa sa among nasabutan gyud of course iwasan nato ang paggamit ng mga lamaw, and then isa diha in our provincial boundaries ang mga sasakyan na papasok sa aming probinsya will pass through a foot bath and a wheel bath para ma-disinfect ang mga sasakyan, minimizing the transmission,” said Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy of Davao De Oro in a Network Briefing News on Radyo Pilipinas.
Uy said the province is also coordinating with Davao del Norte because there is an outbreak, which was contained already in Panabo City.
“Isa pud sa ginahimay namo sa hog raisers especially backyard raisers to really be careful in purchasing canned goods from different sources kasi itong ASF virus, present sa mga canned goods. Hindi naman nakakahawa sa humans; it can only pass from animal to animal,” Uy said.
The governor added that the provincial veterinary’s monitoring continues.
The provincial government of Davao del Norte has ordered the lockdown of a barangay in Panabo City on July 22, 2020, following confirmation of 12 cases of the African swine fever (ASF) infections in the area.
In a statement issued by Governor Edwin Jubahib, the Davao del Norte provincial government explained that the lockdown aims to implement “no pig or pork products” to enter or leave Barangay Cagangohan. All pigs in the area were culled to prevent the infection from further spreading.
Also in February this year, the provincial government implemented a temporary ban on entry of live hogs and pork products following confirmed cases as well as Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental provinces.
