Seven more high-powered loosefirearms were handed over to the government forces in a ceremony held at the Barangay Hall of Kabacan, North Cotabato on Thursday (May 20,2021).

The Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) reported that among the surrendered loose firearms were four Caliber 30 Garand rifles, two Caliber 30 M1 Carbines, and one M16 Baby Armalite.

According to Lieutenant General Corleto Vinluan Jr., commander of WestMinCom, the firearms were surrendered by the officials of seven barangays in Kabacan.

He said this is the result of the concerted effort of the local government units and the security sector in the province.

From January 2021 up to present, a total of 39 firearms have already been turned over to the military in Central Mindanao. Of these, 34 are high-powered and five are low-powered firearms.

Vinluan urged the residents of the province to help government to make every community free from hostilities and criminalities.

“We call on those who are still keeping undocumented firearms to surrender them now as they will be penalized for illegal possession of firearms once caught,” Vinluan said.

The activity was witnessed by Kabacan Mayor Herlo Guzman and Municipal Coordinator Jabib Guiabar who facilitated the ceremonial turnover of the loose firearms, officials from military, and police.
