The threat level of Davao City is currently at a moderate level based on the report presented during the recent Davao City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) meeting chaired by Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte.

“Ang threat level karon sa Davao City is moderate. Ang atoang security alertness is high-level gihapon. Wala nato giusab kay lisod magkumpyansa sa mga butang na ingon ana. although ang classification sa atoang threat level is moderate ang atoang preparedness is at the high-level gihapon,” the mayor said.

However, Mayor Baste noted that there is an increase in theft cases in the city.

“Naa kitay increase from last year’s theft ug karon. Daghan theft na cases but I do not know atong pre-pandemic na datus nato,” he said.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director Colonel Alberto Lupaz reported in a press briefing on Wednesday that of the eight focus crimes, theft remains on top in the city.

The focus crimes are theft, rape, robbery, physical injury, murder, homicide, carnapping of motorcycles, and carnapping of other motor vehicles.

Lupaz reported that from July to September 15 of this year, a total of 30 theft cases were recorded, which almost double the 16 cases recorded during the same period last year.

Lupaz said the DCPO has accomplished a lot in terms of curbing theft cases after it reinstated Oplan R.A.T. Tugis (Robbery/Hold-up, Akyat Bahay and Theft).

Duterte is hoping that DCPO can decrease the numbers as yuletide season is approaching.

“Makita nako ang efforts ng DCPO suporta lang ta sa ilaha. Believe in them. They only want what’s best for the city,” Duterte said.

Meanwhile, the Police Regional Office 11 (PRO 11) vowed to intensify its security campaign against focus crimes.

Police regional director PBGen Benjamin Silo Jr. reported that from January 2 to September 17 of this year, a total of 1,006 incidents of the eight focus crimes were reported in the Davao Region. Of these, 983 cases were already filed in court, 551 arrests were made, and 23 remain unsolved.

He also said police forces were able to clear 97.71 percent of the reported cases regionwide not only due to the competence of police investigators but also the active participation of civilians.

“We are very thankful na ‘yong mga kababayan natin gising at nakikipagtulungan sa ating mga kapulisyahan para maresolba ‘yong mga krimen na nangyayari sa Davao Region,” he said.
