The province of Davao Oriental bested other provinces in Davao Region in the implementation of the ‘Chikiting Ligtas’ Campaign, a supplemental immunization activity campaign of the Department of Health (DOH).
According to the data from DOH XI, a total of 51,413 Davao Oriental kids aging 9 to 59 months old got inoculated against Measles and Rubella (MR), as of June 15, 2023. This equates to 98.84 percent from the 52,019 target for the province.
Davao Oriental also excelled in the oral polio vaccination (OPV) in the region immunizing a total of 26,793 out of target 28,076 children or an accomplishment of 96.26 percent.
Ranking second in the regional list is Davao City with an accomplishment of 85.46 percent in MR immunization and 76.66 percent in OPV; followed by Davao de Oro, 82.51 percent (MR) and 77.87 percent (OPV); Davao del Norte, 81.86 percent (MR) and 78.93 percent (OPV); Davao del Sur, 75.20 percent (MR) and 77.83 percent (OPV); and Davao Occidental 65.38 percent (MR) and 69.99 percent (OPV).
The DOH report also showed that four municipalities in the province also led in the program implementation achieving more than 100 percent of their respective targets in the MR immunization.
The identified towns were Caraga with 132.61 percent, which topped the regional list; Manay, 124.39 percent; Banaybanay, 113.82 percent; and Baganga, 111.79 percent.
In the OPV campaign, only three municipalities were listed in the focused areas. These are Manay, City of Mati, and Governor Generoso.
Dr. Reden Bersaldo, provincial health officer of Davao Oriental, thanked the hardworking health workers on the ground for attaining high immunization coverage rates, and ensuring the health and well-being of the populace, particularly the children.
He also appreciated Governor Corazon Malanyaon and the mayors for fully supporting the Chikiting Ligtas activity.
