Over 1,000 artworks from at least 500 artists belonging to 32 art groups and galleries from all over Mindanao were unveiled as the Mindanao Art Fair 2023 opened in SM Lanang Premier on Sunday.
The art exhibit, which is organized by Lawig-Diwa Inc. in collaboration with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the National Committee on Art Galleries (NCCA-NCAG), was officially opened with a ribbon cutting led by Presidential Assistant for Eastern Mindanao Leo Tereso Magno, SM Lanang Premier’s mall manager Engineer Jonathan Nick Santos, Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre and Mindanao artist Rey Mudjahid “Kublai” Ponce Millan.
Carrying the theme “Mindanao Art in Glitch: Resonating and Reverberating,” the exhibit aims to explore the glitch or fault that prevents something from being successful or working as well as it should.
It will showcase artworks, murals, and installations at The Atrium, North Wing Grounds, North Wing 2nd Level, and the third level of SM Lanang until October 1.
Meanwhile, Magno vowed to champion the cause of the Mindanao artists.
In his short inspirational message, Magno acknowledged the lack of government support to Mindanao artists thus he vowed to give all the support the Office of the Presidential Assistant for Eastern Mindanao could contribute to the betterment of artists on the island.
“Kasama nyo na ang opisina ng OPAMINE sa lahat ng inyong mga programa lalong lalo na kung makakatulong sa mga artists natin dito sa Mindanao,” Magno said.
