New course for Ironman 70.3 Davao 2024

The Ironman 70.3 Davao will return on August 11, 2024, with a new course that will feature the newly-inaugurated Davao City Bypass Coastal Road and will be staged from Davao City to Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.

The past three editions of the race in 2019, 2018, and 2023 were held on an out and back course from Davao City to Davao del Norte (Tagum City).

Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, Mayor Jose Nelson “Tata” Sala of Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, and Princess Galura of Sunrise Events, Inc. signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the Ironman 70.3 Davao 2024 held at Matina Enclaves Club House, Quimpo Blvd., Davao City on Thursday.

“Ang Ironman at Davao City para siyang lagi lang perfect combination. Marami na po kaming naka trabahong iba’t ibang mga syudad, iba’t ibang mga tao, pero ang partnership namin with Davao City remain strong,” Galura said.

Duterte told officials of the city government of Davao present during the MOA signing to be ready for this event as the holding will coincide with the month of the Kadayawan sa Davao celebration.

“Andam lang ta because we will be expecting a lot of visitors not only from within the Philippines but also from around the world. I know you are already aware of what we are going to do. Just to remind you that we have to pay attention to detail in handling incidents,” he said.

On his end, Sala said that being considered as a partner in hosting the Ironman is a great privilege for Sta. Cruz.

“Lubos kaming nagagalak at kami ay inyong naimbitahan na maging bahagi ng Ironman 2024. Sta. Cruz is no stranger to international events, we have been a consistent partner of the Department of Tourism in staging the International Boulder Face Challenge, among other global and national events,” he said.

He is optimistic that Ironman 70.3 Davao 2024 will boost the tourism portfolio of Sta. Cruz.

“Hindi naming hihindian ang pagkakataong maging bahagi ng prestihiyosong kompetisyon na ito na seguradong magdadala ng positibong kalakalan at kaunlarang pangturismo sa aming bayan lalo na sa aming probinsiya,” Sala said.
