The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) is partnering with other offices and departments of the city government of Davao to address the recurring problem of flooding in Davao City.
CDRRMO chief Alfredo Baluran said on Thursday evening that CDRRMO will form a joint assessment team with the City Engineers Office (CEO), City Social Welfare and Development Office(CSWDO), City Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO), and Ancillary Service Unit (ASU) to come up with recommendations on how to address the challenges of flooding particularly in areas recently affected by flooding in Davao City.
“We are now planning to have a joint assessment to be conducted by a team coming from our office, CEO, ASU, CIO, and other part of the assessment team. To come up with any other recommendations on how we are going to address flooding. Or maybe what are the results kung kailangan ba ng engineering measures to address the problem in the area,” Baluran said in a special presser for updates on the flooding incident in Davao City at Central 911 Compound, Daang Patnubay, Sandawa, Davao City on Thursday.
Several barangays in Davao City were flooded and number of families were displaced due to hours of heavy downpour on Wednesday night until the wee hours of Thursday.
Among the areas severely flooded were Susana Homes in Baliok, Toril, and Samantha Subdivision in Bago Gallera.
Based on the general assessment of the Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis among the factors that caused the flooding in the said areas are the constricted natural waterways exacerbated by the silted drainage system.
Baluran also said that the ongoing road repairs from Taal Bailey Bridge to the coastal area were the contributing factor to the inundations in Talomo Proper.
Based on the latest assessment, 476 families or 722 individuals were affected in Barangay Bago Aplaya; 1,011 families comprised of 1,600 individuals with 10 recorded injuries and three houses damaged in Bago Gallera; 421 families in Bago Gallera; 475 families comprised of 2,230 individuals in Catalunan Pequeno; seven families or 10 individuals in Barangay Ma-a; 1,800 families in Talomo Proper; and 1,612 families in Matina Aplaya.
Victims were provided with hot meals (breakfast and lunch through the mobile kitchen), and mats, blankets, welfare goods, and hygiene kits.
