“In politics there are no permanent friends and enemies.”
This was the reply of Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte when asked to comment on the recent removal of Second District Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Davao City Third District Rep. Isidro Ungab as deputy speakers, however, she said they have her full support as a politician and as a friend.
Earlier last week the House leaders relieved Macapagal-Arroyo and Ungab as deputy speakers after the two lawmakers chose not to sign House Resolution 1414 sponsored by the entire leadership.
“Wala koy comment sa pag remove but I have a comment as their friends. Sa politics we always say there are no permanent friends and enemies sa pulitika and as a politician it is duly heartwarming if you find another politicians who are true friends. That is why Congressman Sid Ungab and Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has my full support as a politician and as a friend,” Duterte told Davao media on Friday.
The vice president also expressed her gratitude to Senator Imee Marcos f or her continued support to former president Rodrigo Duterte.
In a statement, Marcos vowed she would stand by former president even if she is the “only one left.”
“Yes, nagpasalamat ko. It is true that the political side of our family is going through a rough patch right now. Para lang masabtan sa mga tawo, lahi ang pulitika, lahi ang trabaho. So nagpasalamat ko kay Senator Imee Marcos sa iyahang padayon na pagsuporta sa pulitika sa among pamilya,” the vice president said.
Duterte also rebuffed speculations of a Sara Duterte-Imee Marcos tandem in the 2028 election.
It can be recalled that Harry Roque floated the Sara-Imee tandem for the 2028 elections.
“The future is far too distant right now to speculate what will happen in 2028,” the vice president said.
