Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go extended aid to fire victims at Congressman Manuel Garcia Elementary School in Agdao, where they are temporarily housed on Thursday.
At least 376 families lost their homes to the fire that started in Purok San Vicente, Brgy. Leon Garcia, Agdao, Davao City Wednesday dawn, December 27, 2023: 307 families from Purok San Vicente, 64 families from Purok San Roque, and six families from Purok Sto. Nino.
The senator distributed grocery packs and vitamins and raffled off bicycles. He also gave away six pair of shoes and cell phones.
The victims also received cash assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development 11 (DSWD 11) through Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS).
“Parati na ako dito sa Barangay Leon Garcia, makatulong sa mga kababayan nating nasunugan, makatulong sa mga pasyente, makatulong sa mga proyektong nakakapag unlad ng bayan at makapag iwan ng konting ngiti sa panahon ng kanilang pagdadalamhati. Mahirap ang masunugan. Back to zero. Sa akong mga kaigsoonan. Huwag kayong mag alala at magtulungan lang tayo,” Go said in an interview.
Go urged the fire victims to enjoy Christmas holidays despite their situation.
“Alam ko mahirap masunugan pero importante intact ang pamilya, celebrate Christmas and New Year with family,” he said.
Go also encouraged the victims to seek help from the Malasakit Centers for their hospital needs.
Also known as Mr. Malasakit, Go initiated the establishment of Malasakit Centers in the country.
There are a total of 159 Malasakit Centers in the country – 89 centers in Luzon including 31 in NCR, 30 in Visayas, 40 in Mindanao, and one in Davao City.
Go also initiated the establishment of super health centers in Davao City: Dumoy Davao City Super Health Centers, Malabog Davao City Super Health Center, Toril Davao City Super Health Center, Los Amigos Davao City Super Health Center, Calinan Super Health Center, Catalunan Grande Super Health Center, Indangan Super Health Center, Paquibato Proper Super Health Center, Tacunan Super Health Center, and Tibungco Super Health Center.
“Kahit saang sulok kayo ng Pilipinas pupuntahan ko kayo basta kaya ng aking katawan at panahon. Wala pong bakasyon bakasyon sa akin at Christmas break sa akin dahil yun ang aking pinangako sa ating mga kababayan nating nasunugan, nabahaan, linog. Mula Aparri hanggang Jolo napuntahan ko na po,” Go said.
Go’s wish for the New Year is good health for everyone.
“Have a healthy New Year sa ating lahat. Dahil para sa akin ang katumbas ng kalusugan ay buhay ng bawat Pilipino,” he said.
