The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) does not support the idea of separating Mindanao from the Republic of the Philippines.
Bangsamoro Government Chief Minister Ahod B. Ebrahim in a statement urged everyone to continue to support the current administration and allow peace and civility to reign over the affairs of the land.
Former President Rodrigo Duterte recently floated the idea of seceding Mindanao from the Philippines.
“As chief Minister of the Bangsamoro Government, I stand firmly on adhering to the faithful implementation of the provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) towards the right to self-determination,” Ebrahim said.
Ebrahim added that underlying the CAB is the recognition of the justness and legitimacy of the cause of the Bangsamoro people and the aspiration to chart our political future through a democratic process that will secure the identity and posterity and allow for meaningful self-governance.
“Although, more has yet to be done, parties to the CAB had made great strides in the implementation of its components that are ultimately beneficial to the Bangsamoro people,” he said.
Ebrahim also said that BARMM remains grateful for, and acknowledges, the significant contributions made by the past and present Presidents of the Philippines in arriving at the peaceful settlement of the Bangsamoro question.
During a press conference in Davao City on Tuesday night, Duterte expressed his desire for Mindanao to become independent.
“Ako gusto ko talaga, gusto ko na mag independent tayo. Nagsawa na ako. Ilang presidente na kasi. Walang nangyari sa Pilipinas. The only reason kung bakit kami talaga ay disappointed, ang pera ng bayan, sinasalsal nila, inuubos kung anong pinaggagawa, ang ating bayan, pobre pa rin,” he said.
“Mindanao is rich but of course kung mag separate independent ka, at magpuntahan lahat dito ang Pilipino, there is gonna be a big problem. Mga taga Luzon and Visayas we will not deny you pero not really a, hindi naman passport, yung ano lang ibigay na card,” Duterte added.
Duterte clarified that it is still in the works as there is a process to be followed.
