Department of Transportation (DoTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista assured that there is a procurement on the pipeline for baggage trolleys at the Davao International Airport (DIA).

“Meron ng gagawing procurement for these trolleys. We know there’s a lack of trolleys right now but we’re also looking at the possibility of some private groups donating these trolleys,” Bautista said in an interview with the Davao media on Tuesday.

In January this year, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines-Davao (CAAP-Davao) official Rex A. Obcena stated that DIA has an inventory of 156 push carts and of the 156, 46 were donated by Gaisano Mall.

Obcena also noted that the current baggage cart requirement at the airport is 700.

Meanwhile, Bautista said the rehabilitation of the Davao airport continues.

“Nagkaroon lang kami ng konting problema doon sa bidding for the construction of the terminal. We will do a rebidding,” he said.

Last month, National Economic and Development Authority 11 (NEDA 11) director Maria Lourdes Lim confirmed that the CAAP will continue to pursue the modernization of the Davao airport this year.

Lim said this will be done through the following projects: completion of the construction of a parallel taxiway; provision of taxiway lights and restoration works; and resurfacing of runway, strip grade correction, site development of the new terminal area, construction of apron and taxiway construction of vehicular parking area and access road.
