Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) terminated the membership of four big political names in Davao — Davao del Norte Vice Governor De Carlo “Oyo” Uy, Tagum City Mayor Rey Uy, Davao de Oro (DdO) Vice Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy, and DdO First District Representative Maricar Zamora — effective Monday, April 15.

HNP is a regional political party formed in 2018 by Vice President Sara Duterte, in support of the Duterte administration. HNP released an statement on Monday that circulated on social media announcing the termination of membership of the said public officials who ran under the party during the 2022 elections.

It said that the decision came in light of recent events and actions that have been found to be in conflict with the core principles and policies of the party.

The party expressed its gratitude to the officials for their contributions and efforts during their time as a valued members.

“Your participation has been appreciated, and this decision was not made lightly. We understand that such changes can be challenging, and we wish to assure you that this decision was reached only after a careful review of our party’s commitment to maintaining faithful public service. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors,” it said.

HNP vowed to continue to uphold respect for the dignity of men and that government resources are tools of service for all.

The party emphasized that in the coming days, it is expecting the courtesy resignation of other members of the HNP as it continues its preparations for the upcoming elections.

It can be recalled that the vice president bared to the Davao media last month that there was a discussion between Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod and HNP in preparation for the 2025 elections.

Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod is a local Davao City-based political organization founded by then mayor former president Rodrigo Duterte.

In the 2022 presidential election, the HNP supported the candidacies of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte for the presidency and vice presidency, respectively, under the UniTeam Alliance.

The HNP also endorsed 15 senatorial candidates for the 2019 mid-term elections namely Senators Cynthia Villar, Imee Marcos, Pia Cayetano, Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, Ronald dela Rosa, Joseph Victor Ejercito, Jinggoy Estrada, and Sonny Angara.
