Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte criticized Police Regional Office 11 (PRO 11) Director Brigadier General Nicholas Torre III for his subjective perceptions of the peace and order situation in Davao City.

“Kini man gud siya if you go back to his statement, ingon siya that is how he perceives it. So, kung ingon ana na lang ang atoang pamaagi sa pag assess sa atoang, wala ta’y klaro na tool for assessment or naay mode na gamiton nato for analysis unya gamiton lang nato subjectively on how we perceived, asa ang credibility sa imohang conclusion? When I say now I perceived him as a dirty cop, ganahan siya ana? Kung gusto niya na perception lang ang gamiton nato diri. How would he feel? He is jumping to conclusions unya kini ra bang dagan sa atong kinabuhi diri sa davao dugay nato ning gipaningkamutan nato, not just the elected officials, but ang mismong mga tao ang naningkamot na mahimong malinawon ang ilahang lugar by following the rules,” the mayor said during an interaction with the members of the Davao media on Friday night.

The mayor also mentioned that the newly-appointed Davao City Police Office (DCPO) acting City Director Col. Hansel M. Marantan and Torre both have controversial pasts.

“So, kung unsa may mahitabo ani diri, ani atong lugar, I wouldn’t be surprised. Daghan kaayo mga extraordinary movements happening within the PNP diri sa region and specially dinhi sa city. Kani man gud nahitabo diri, kani ilang ginabuhat, mga arrangement na ilahang ginabuhat sa police, nagsugod ni siya extraordinary movements sa mga gibuhat diri, kung naay mahitabo diri nga extraordinary its on them, ilaha na, niabot lang ning problemaha ni pagkahuman ninyo gihilabtan ang among lugar, inyuha ning sala,” Duterte said.

Duterte said he cannot remember when Davao City was singled out, just now.

“Seeing the trend, we’ve never experienced this in the past so karon muingon ni si Torre nga naa siya’y nakit-an na discrepancy sa data, iyahang claims that nga we’re making up, gusto nila itahi ang narrative nga gibuhat daw kuno ang datus, gina-fabricate. Dugay na gipaningkamutan, because Davao City used to be, kanang gubot na lugar and now you tell me na gi-fabricate nako ang data?” the mayor said.

Meanwhile, Duterte assured that the city government of Davao will continue to support the police force in Davao City amid controversies over the leadership of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) and the mass relief of 19 station commanders in the city.

Duterte, however, challenged them to perform their duties as policemen properly and genuinely.

“Protect the people, mao man gyud kaha na inyong motto, then protect the people,” Duterte said.
