Davao City Councilor Diosdado Angelo Mahipus Jr. bared on Tuesday that the city government of Davao through a partnership with a private entity is eyeing to establish a housing facility to serve as shelter for displaced Dabawenyos.

“Naay pribado na entity na makig alayaon sa city government of Davao just so we can make this project a reality. Ang mahitabo ani, puy-anan ni sya para sa mga walay kabalhinan namuyo sa mga delikado na lugar. Dili ni parehas atong mga relocation sites nga ginapabayran, ginapanghatag sa mupuyo but rather this would be a housing facility, murag it will not be awarded to them as owner but it would be made available for them to use,” , chair of the Committee on Disaster Risk Management and Ethics, explained.

Mahipus said among the concerns about the relocation program of the city is beneficiaries of the housing program usually dispose of the lots awarded to them.

“So mangita na pud sila ug lain or ilahang buhaton ug commercial or ilahang paarkilahan. Naa’y uban pud since dili sila maka-afford na mubayad sa housing program nato mao na’y naa tay housing program na we can provide them shelter not necessarily to be own by them but for their use and possession,” he said.

Mahipus said as to the parameters, that would depend on further discussions.

“I have talked to a private entity that is willing to partner with the city government of Davao to give to the city a facility for us to own, manage and administer concerning the implementation of our housing program for the poorest of the poor,” he said.

He said the design of the building has been presented to Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte and that initially an area has been identified already but there is no final decision yet on where to build it.

Mahipus said they also need the approval of some offices for the release of the funds that would be needed for the construction of the facility.

“The fund is under escrow of a national government agency, can be withdrawn, and can be used for the construction of the facility and turned over to Davao City,” he said.
