Kadayawan sa Davao Festival makes way for the opening of the runway for cultural fashion shows and buffets of local and vibrant cuisines.
And that was exactly what we got during Acacia Hotel Davao’s “Media and Fashion Fiesta” at the hotel’s lobby on August 11, 2023, in celebration of the 38th Kadayawan sa Davao.
“As we opened our doors at Acacia Hotel Davao, we also opened our hearts to the rich heritage that surrounds us. So, let us embrace the beauty of this moment, indulge in the displays of creativity and immerse ourselves in the essence of Kadayawan,” said Agot Serrano, resident manager of Acacia Hotel Davao.
Acacia Hotel Davao highlighted the creations of Davao designers Kathryn “Kay” Mendoza Fanlo and Christopher “Toping” Zamora.
The designers showcased pieces that depict Mindanaoan singularity.
Fanlo is a Dabawenya artisan whose accessory pieces are intricately crafted. Inspired by iconic symbols that define Mindanaoan identity, each piece tells a story deeply rooted in Mindanaoan culture.
Each piece is a celebration of the remarkable fusion of artistry, heritage, and culture through a collection of handmade pieces of jewelry.
“In our fast-paced world, this jewelry creations offer a moment of pause. Inviting us to connect to our heritage and engage in meaningful conversations. I encourage you to not only admire the beauty that meets the eye but also delve deeper into the stories woven within each piece. Wear them proudly,” she said.
Zamora’s creations have a trademark of Mindanaoan-inspired designs. He paraded dazzling ensembles and awe-inspiring accessories of Kadayawan fashion that underscore the significance of this celebration and the deep connections between the people, nature, and tradition.
“We come together to celebrate not only the bountiful harvest of Mindanao but also the innate, captivating Kadayawan fashion. This festival not only showcases the region’s agricultural abundance but also its rich cultural diversity and artistic expressions,” Zamora said.
A fiesta would not be complete without sampling mouthwatering Mindanao and local recipes.
The event was followed by AHD’s Kadayawan Buffet launched at Waling Waling Cafe.
It was a feast of exquisite dishes that will leave you craving for more.
