It’s not called the “Red Dragon of Asia” for no reason.
From its humble beginnings 74 years ago, the People’s Republic of China has slowly emerged as Asia’s powerhouse.
Anchored on its people that makes up the country’s strong workforce, China has achieved an astonishing success in the fields of economics, technology, ecological development, infrastructure, innovation, manufacturing, sports among others. It seems that there’s no stopping this country’s dominance.
These incredible achievements serve as a great source of pride and inspiration for all Chinese people.
During its journey, China has made some friends along the way.
Through the years, Davao City has became one the closes in the hearts of the Chinese people.
Handful of cooperations in several fields and a number of sisterhood agreements were signed between this close allies.
No wonder Davao City was among the chosen cities that a Chinese Consulate has celebrated its 74th founding anniversary.
The grand ballroom of DusitD2 Hotel Davao exuded a cheerful and festive atmosphere with majority of the guests were donning red attire. Consul General Zhao Xiuzhen and Consul Hong Ming personally greeted and welcomed guests at the ballroom’s entrance.
The reception began when Xiuzhen and Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte walked into the ballroom, which was met with warm applause from the guests led by Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II, who represented his father Rep. Paolo Duterte, and government officials. The moment was a picture of togetherness and deep friendship between China and Davao City.
In her speech, Xiuzhen noted that since the beginning of this year, amid the struggling world economic recovery and a challenging and complex external environment, China’s economy has continued to recover on a general soundtrack of rebound.
Xiuzhen stressed that in the first half of this year, China’s GDP grew by 5.5 percent year on year, notably faster than last year’s 3 percent.
She said the International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicted that China’s economy will grow by 5.2 percent this year, and contribute one-third of the global growth.
She also said that China’s economy will remain a major engine for the global economy.
“Ten years have passed since President Xi Jinping raised the concept of a human community with a shared future and the Belt and Road Initiative. In recent years, President Xi Jinping has furthermore put forward the Global Development Initiative, we hope that countries around the world will bear in mind the future of humanity, abandon the Cold War mentality or zero-sum game mentality, and work together to meet common challenges,” she said.
Mayor Baste extended his greetings saying the celebration marks a significant milestone for China as it stands as a shining example of what a nation can achieve when its citizens are united in their pursuit of progress, prosperity, and well-being.
Since the establishment of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Davao in 2018, Dabawenyos have been blessed with opportunities and assistance in the fields of education, trade, social aid, and infrastructure development, among others.
“Our local Chinatown community has always been very active and has helped shape Davao City to become what it is today. And since the establishment of the Consulate in 2018, this relationship has only grown stronger,” he said.
