Two of boxing’s biggest stars Senator Manny Pacquiao and Adrien Broner will make an official announcement about their upcoming boxing plans during a bi-coastal press tour. The fighters will be available to the New York City press corps on Monday, November 19, at Gotham Hall in Manhattan, and will visit the media in Los Angeles the following day at the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills.
Pacquiao and Adrien Broner are expected to gauge each other when their January 20, 2019 world welterweight title fight is formally announced in the Big Apple. The New York presser will serve as the kickoff leg of the two-city promotional tour that will have it second and final leg in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
Pacquiao and his team, including lead trainer Buboy Fernandez, are tentatively set to fly to the US this Saturday.
“It’s going to be just a super fast tour because Senator Manny is raring to begin training camp,” said Joe Ramos, who is now Pacquiao’s right-hand man for boxing affairs following the retirement of Canadian Mike Koncz.
Pacquiao, who turns 40 on Dec. 17, has actually started the pre-conditioning phase by suiting up in a pair of night-time basketball games at Dasmariñas Village.
Broner has been going to the gym himself the past few weeks and even posted a video of himself doing the mitts.
Pacquiao’s clash with Broner will be the first defense of the World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight crown he won by knocking out Lucas Matthysse of Argentina last July in Kuala Lumpur. The fight with Broner is expected to pave the way for a second meeting with Floyd Mayweather, who beat the Filipino eight-division champion in May 2015.
Broner and Mayweather are represented by Al Haymon, one of boxing’s most powerful men.
The events are open to media members only and will include a formal press conference followed by print and electronic interviews with the fighters and event executives. Both the New York and Los Angeles press conferences will be streamed LIVE on the SHOWTIME Sports YouTube channel & SHOWTIME Boxing Facebook page.
